Protection of Ankarafantsika biodiversity

Most people living near Ankarafantsika National Park are unaware of the importance of preserving and protecting biodiversity. Awareness and education sessions are held every year, prior to the major patrol campaign during the fire season (July to December).

Members of the Association visit several villages in the presence of the relevant local authorities:

Our activities encourage young people in particular to join our Association.

Its aim is to improve the living conditions of its members and the local community in each village.

The creation of several micro-projects generates income for each household without exploiting the park's natural resources.

The majority of income comes from donors. It is important to maintain good links between the various organisations operating in Ankarafantsika Park.

The Association must always put itself to the test and do its best to achieve all these objectives. The 3 keys to lasting partnerships and collaborations are :

The Ankarafantsika National Park comes under heavy pressure every year. The main pressures are : forest and bush fires, charcoal burning, logging for timber and the collection of precious woods, and land clearance to extend arable land.
As the park is made up of dry forest and savannah, water is not always accessible. Fire is the most devastating threat and is often difficult to extinguish. It is becoming essential to prevent fires. They can decimate a large part of the park's endemic plant and animal biodiversity. To reduce this pressure, the Association has decided to mobilise and work with the MNP and other NGOs to step up patrols.

The real challenge is to put in place good coordination and an effective strategy between the patrol boats.
